Moment distribution (Hardy Cross) steps — a TI-84 Plus CE program

By E-Code · updated

MOMDIST is a TI-BASIC program for the TI-84 Plus CE. A continuous beam of 2 to 4 spans with uniform loads, each end fixed or pinned. It shows the work the Hardy Cross way: stiffness 4EI/L, distribution factors at each joint, fixed-end moments, the member-end moments after each of the first cycles of balancing and carry-over, the final end moments and the support reactions.

What it asks for and what it shows

It asks for 6 values at its prompts. In the example below it shows AB , BA , BC , CB , CD , DC , RA, RB, RC, RD, ΣR=ΣWL, STIFFNESS 4EI/L, DISTRIB FACTORS, FIXED-END MOM, CYCLE 1, BALANCE+CARRY, REACTIONS.

Example run

One of its oracle test cases. The inputs are typed in order, and the results are the values the case expects on the screen.

How it's checked

4 test cases, each checked against an independent method. Replayed key by key on a virtual TI-84 Plus CE, they make 73 checks.
