How to find the balance left on a loan on a TI-84 Plus CE, TI-84 Plus or TI-83 Plus
With the loan in the TVM Solver, press APPS, ENTER for Finance and 9 for bal(, type the number of payments made, close the bracket and press ENTER. bal(12) on a 20,000 loan at 6% over 60 months is 16463.94.
Before you start
Put the loan in the TVM Solver first: N = 60, I% = 6, PV = 20000, P/Y = 12, then solve PMT (cursor on PMT, ALPHA ENTER).
Step by step
- Open APPS. APPS Press APPS. The car loan is already in the TVM Solver: 60 payments at 6% on 20,000 dollars.
- Open Finance. ENTER Press ENTER for Finance. Item 9 is bal(, the balance still owed.
- Pick bal(. 9 Press 9 for bal(.
- After 12 payments. 1 2 ) Type 12 ): the balance after one year of payments.
- Work it out. ENTER Press ENTER.
- What you still owe. 16463.94: after 12 payments of 386.66 dollars you still owe 16,463.94 dollars. Only about 3,536 dollars of the 4,640 dollars paid went to the loan; the rest was interest.
