How to store a constant in a letter on a TI-84 Plus CE, TI-84 Plus or TI-83 Plus

Type the value, press STO→, then ALPHA and the letter's key, and ENTER: 9.81 STO→ ALPHA TAN stores gravity in G. Type G in any formula to use it: .5×G×3² gives 44.145.

Step by step

  1. Type g. 9 . 8 1 Type 9 . 8 1, gravity in m/s².
  2. Store it. STO→ Press STO→. It writes →, which means store into.
  3. Pick the letter G. ALPHA TAN Press ALPHA, then TAN for G: an easy letter to remember for gravity.
  4. Save it. ENTER Press ENTER. G now holds 9.81, even after you turn the calculator off.
  5. Use G in a formula. . 5 × ALPHA TAN × 3 X² How far does a stone fall in 3 s? Type .5 × G × 3²: ALPHA TAN for G, x² for the square.
  6. Work it out. ENTER Press ENTER.
  7. Read the answer. 44.145 m. G stays 9.81 until you store something else in it. Keep other constants in other letters, like C for the speed of light.
