How to add fractions into one with a common denominator on a TI-89 Titanium

Press F2 6 for comDenom(, type the sum of fractions, close with ) and press ENTER: comDenom(1/x+1/(x+1)) gives (2·x+1)/(x^2+x), one fraction with its top and bottom multiplied out.

Step by step

  1. Open the Algebra menu. F2 Press F2 for the Algebra menu.
  2. Pick comDenom(. 6 Press 6 for comDenom(, common denominator.
  3. Type the sum. 1 ÷ X + 1 ÷ ( X + 1 ) ) Type 1/x+1/(x+1) and ). The brackets keep x+1 together under the 1.
  4. Make one fraction. ENTER Press ENTER.
  5. Read the fraction. (2x+1)/(x²+x): one fraction, top and bottom multiplied out. x²+x is x·(x+1), the two old bottoms together.
