- Solve an equation exactly: Press F2 (Algebra) and 1 for solve(, type the equation, a comma and the variable, then ) and ENTER: solve(x^2-2=0,x) gives x = √(2) or x = -√(2).
- Factor and expand expressions: Press F2 (Algebra) and 2 for factor(, type the expression and ENTER: factor(x^2-5x+6) gives (x-3)·(x-2).
- Solve a system of equations: Press F2 1 for solve(, type the equations joined by and (2nd 5 for MATH, 8 Test, 7 and), then a comma and the letters in braces: solve(x+y=5 and x-y=1,{x,y}) gives x = 3 and y = 2.
- Find complex roots: Press F2, then ALPHA = for A:Complex and 1 for cSolve(, type the equation, a comma and the variable and ENTER: cSolve(x^2+1=0,x) gives x = ί or x = -ί, where solve( only says false.
- Add fractions into one with a common denominator: Press F2 6 for comDenom(, type the sum of fractions, close with ) and press ENTER: comDenom(1/x+1/(x+1)) gives (2·x+1)/(x^2+x), one fraction with its top and bottom multiplied out.
- Split a fraction into partial fractions: Press F2 3 for expand(, type the fraction with brackets round its top and bottom, close with ) and press ENTER: expand((2x+1)/(x^2+x)) gives 1/(x+1)+1/x.
