How to convert degrees to degrees minutes seconds on a TI-84 Plus CE, TI-84 Plus or TI-83 Plus

Set MODE to DEGREE, type the angle, press 2nd ANGLE (above APPS) and 4 for ►DMS, then ENTER: 31.5 becomes 31 degrees, 30 minutes and 0 seconds. ►DMS only works at the end of a line.

Step by step

  1. Open MODE. MODE Press MODE. ►DMS needs Degree mode.
  2. Go down to RADIAN DEGREE. ▼ ▼ Press ▼ twice to reach the RADIAN DEGREE row.
  3. Move to DEGREE. ▶ Press ▶ to move onto DEGREE.
  4. Turn on degrees. ENTER Press ENTER. DEGREE is now highlighted.
  5. Go back home. 2nd MODE Press 2nd, then MODE (QUIT).
  6. Type the angle. 3 1 . 5 Type 31.5, an angle in decimal degrees.
  7. Open ANGLE. 2nd APPS Press 2nd, then APPS. ANGLE (above APPS) holds the °, ' and ►DMS tools.
  8. Pick ►DMS. 4 Press 4 for ►DMS. It goes at the end of the line.
  9. Convert it. ENTER Press ENTER.
  10. Degrees, minutes, seconds. 31.5° is 31°30'0": 31 degrees and 30 minutes, since half a degree is 30 minutes.
