How to graph trig functions in the right window on a TI-84 Plus CE, TI-84 Plus or TI-83 Plus

Type the function into Y=, press ZOOM and 7 for ZTrig: the graph is redrawn with X from −6.15 to 6.15 (about ±2π), a tick every π/2 and Y from −4 to 4. Press WINDOW to see the settings.

Before you start

Type the function into the Y= editor first: this guide uses Y1 = sin(X) (Y=, SIN, X,T,θ,n, ), then 2nd QUIT).

Step by step

  1. Open ZOOM. ZOOM Press ZOOM. Y1 = sin(X) is already typed in for you; ZOOM holds ready-made windows.
  2. Pick ZTrig. 7 Press 7 for ZTrig. The graph is drawn at once in a window made for trig: the waves fill the screen.
  3. See the window. WINDOW Press WINDOW to see what ZTrig set.
  4. Read the settings. X runs from −6.15 to 6.15 (about ±2π), Xscl = 1.57 puts a tick every π/2, and Y runs from −4 to 4.
  5. Back to the graph. GRAPH Press GRAPH to see the waves again.
  6. A clean trig graph. Each tick on the x-axis is π/2, so the peaks and zeros of sin(X) land on ticks. The window is made for radian mode.

What the screen shows
