How to graph and shade inequalities on a TI-84 Plus CE

Open APPS, Inequalz and press any key; on Y1 press ◀ and ENTER, ▼ to the Y row, ▶ to pick less than, ▼ ▼ to OK and ENTER. Then ▶, type the function (2X−3) and press GRAPH: the region below the line is shaded.

Step by step

  1. Open APPS. APPS Press APPS. It lists the apps on your calculator.
  2. Open Inequalz. 5 Press 5 for Inequalz, the inequality graphing app. On your own calculator its number may differ.
  3. Past the title. ENTER Press any key, here ENTER. Y= opens with QUIT-APP at the top, and the cursor blinks on Y1's = sign.
  4. Go to the style icon. ◀ Press ◀ to move onto the style icon left of Y1.
  5. Open the style box. ENTER Press ENTER. A box opens with Color, Y (the relation) and Style.
  6. Go to the Y row. ▼ Press ▼ once to reach the Y row, where = is shown.
  7. Pick less than. ▶ Press ▶ to change = into <, less than.
  8. Go to OK. ▼ ▼ Press ▼ twice, past Style, to reach OK.
  9. Close the box. ENTER Press ENTER. Y1 now shows < instead of =.
  10. Type 2X − 3. ▶ 2 X,T,θ,n − 3 Press ▶ to move past the <, then type 2 X,T,θ,n − 3.
  11. Graph it. GRAPH Press GRAPH. The line y = 2x − 3 is drawn and the region below it is shaded.
  12. The shaded region. Every point in the shading has y < 2x − 3. Add Y2 > −2X + 5 the same way to see where two inequalities overlap.
