Calculus on a TI-89: how-to guides
7 guides for calculus on the TI-89 Titanium. Each one shows the keys to press, step by step.
The guides
- Find an exact integral: Press 2nd 7 for ∫(, then type the function, the variable and the two limits separated by commas, close with ) and press ENTER: ∫(x^2,x,0,2) gives 8/3.
- Find a derivative at a point: Press 2nd 8 for d(, type the function, a comma, the variable and ), then ENTER: d(x^3,x) gives 3·x^2.
- Find a limit: Press F3 (Calc) and 3 for limit(, type the expression, the variable and the point it approaches, close with ) and press ENTER: limit(sin(x)/x,x,0) gives 1.
- Find a Taylor polynomial: Press F3 (Calc) and 9 for taylor(, type the function, the variable and the order, close with ) and press ENTER: taylor(ℯ^(x),x,3) gives x^3/6+x^2/2+x+1 (◆ X types ℯ^().
- Add up a series with sigma: Press F3 (Calc) and 4 for Σ(, type the term, the counting letter, the first and last values, close with ) and press ENTER: Σ(1/n,n,1,5) gives exactly 137/60.
- Find arc length and the maximum of a function: Press F3 8 for arcLen(, type the curve, the variable and the two ends and press ◆ ENTER: arcLen(x^2,x,0,1) gives 1.47894.
- Solve a differential equation: Press F3, then ALPHA ) for C:deSolve(, type the equation with 2nd = for ′ (y′ is the derivative of y), then the input letter and the unknown: deSolve(y′=y,x,y) gives y=@1·ℯ^x, where @1 is any number.
