How to find a limit on a TI-89 Titanium

Press F3 (Calc) and 3 for limit(, type the expression, the variable and the point it approaches, close with ) and press ENTER: limit(sin(x)/x,x,0) gives 1.

Step by step

  1. Open the Calc menu. F3 Press F3. On the home screen, F3 is the Calc menu.
  2. Pick limit(. 3 Press 3 for limit(.
  3. Type the limit. 2nd Y X ) ÷ X , X , 0 ) Press 2nd Y for sin(, then type x)/x, x, 0 and ). That is: the expression, the letter, then the point it heads to.
  4. Find the limit. ENTER Press ENTER. You can't put x = 0 in sin(x)/x, but the limit still exists.
  5. Read the limit. 1: as x gets close to 0, sin(x)/x gets close to 1. Add a 4th argument, 1 or -1, for a limit from the right or left.
