How to use built-in physics constants on a TI-89 Titanium

Press 2nd 3 for UNITS, ▶ to open Constants, ▼ to _g and ENTER to paste it: ENTER shows 9.80665·_m/_s^2. You can also type a constant's name, so 70_kg*_g gives the weight 686.465·_N.

Step by step

  1. Open UNITS. 2nd 3 Press 2nd, then 3. UNITS is written above 3. The first row is Constants.
  2. Open the constants. ▶ Press ▶ to open the list: _c (speed of light), _Cc, _g and more.
  3. Go to _g. ▼ ▼ Press ▼ twice to reach _g, the acceleration of gravity.
  4. Paste _g. ENTER Press ENTER. _g is pasted onto the entry line, underscore and all.
  5. See its value. ENTER Press ENTER.
  6. Type 70_kg*_g. 7 0 ◆ MODE ALPHA EE ALPHA 7 × ◆ MODE ALPHA 7 Type 70, ◆ MODE for _, ALPHA EE for k, ALPHA 7 for g, then * and _g the same way. You can type any constant's name.
  7. Work out the weight. ENTER Press ENTER. Mass times g is the weight, and the units come out as newtons.
  8. Read the answers. g = 9.80665 m/s², and a 70 kg person weighs 686.465 N. The units follow the maths for you.
