How to show a set number of decimal places on a TI-84 Plus CE

Press MODE, ▼ once to the FLOAT row, ▶ onto the number of places (2 for money) and ENTER, then 2nd QUIT: 20/3 then shows 6.67. Pick FLOAT again to see every digit.

Step by step

  1. Open MODE. MODE Press MODE. The cursor starts on NORMAL, in the NORMAL SCI ENG row.
  2. Go to the FLOAT row. ▼ Press ▼ once to reach the FLOAT row. FLOAT shows every digit; a number there fixes the decimal places.
  3. Move to 2. ▶ ▶ ▶ Press ▶ three times: past FLOAT, 0 and 1, onto 2.
  4. Pick 2 places. ENTER Press ENTER. 2 is now highlighted.
  5. Go back home. 2nd MODE Press 2nd, then MODE (QUIT).
  6. Share 20 three ways. 2 0 ÷ 3 Type 20 ÷ 3.
  7. Get the answer. ENTER Press ENTER.
  8. Rounded to 2 places. 6.67, not 6.666666667. Only the display is rounded: the calculator keeps every digit. MODE, then FLOAT, shows them all again.
